Following the strenghtening of the partnership between SRO Motorsports Group and renowned tyre manufacturer Pirelli, the flagship championship of the organisation is now called Intercontinental GT Challenge Powered by Pirelli. The new logo of the series was unveiled today.
Ever since 2013 the Italian tyre manufacturer has been a highly valued partner of the SRO Motorsports Group. In 2019 the ‘Architect of GT Racing’ will use Pirelli tyres in twelve different championships worldwide. Among those, the only global GT3 championship on the motorsports planet will now be known as the Intercontinental GT Challenge Powered by Pirelli.
With the inaugural Kyalami 9 Hour scheduled as the 2019 season finale, the series is competing on all five continents for the first time. The season starts early February with the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour in Australia, followed by the American round, the Laguna Seca California 8 Hours at the end of March. Next up is the longest race of the season, the Total 24 Hours of Spa, which also represents the biggest challenge for exclusive tyre manufacturer Pirelli. To equip the near 70 cars on the grid of the Belgian endurance classic Pirelli brings 13,000 tyres, 24 trucks and well over 100 personnel to the Ardennes.
Barely four weeks after the twice-around-the-clock race in Belgium, the Pirelli staff – which consists of technicians of 18 nationalities – is completely ready for the fourth round of the season, the Suzuka 10 Hours in Japan. At the end of November all of the Intercontinental GT Challenge Powered by Pirelli teams and drivers travel to South Africa for a thrilling finale at the Kyalami 9 Hour.
