Today saw the first track action for the Laguna Seca Raceway California 8 Hours, the final and deciding round of the 2018 Intercontinental GT Challenge. Three paid free practice sessions of 90 minutes each gave drivers and teams plenty of opportunity to familiarize themselves with the 11-turn circuit on the Monterey Peninsula.
Pleasant indian summer weather conditions greeted the competitors for the second edition of the Laguna Seca Raceway California 8 Hours. While the main aim of these paid free practice sessions is to give the teams and drivers the opportunity to finish their last preparations for Sunday’s 8-hour race, it was immediately clear that the Laguna Seca racetrack could hold a surprise or two this weekend.
The 11-turn, 3,602 km long circuit caught out some of the competitors, causing a couple of red flag-interruptions during the day. A part from a couple scratches on the bodywork of some the cars and damaged pride for a couple of drivers, all got off scot-free.
The Laguna Seca Raceway California 8 Hours continues on Friday with the official Free Practice (9.20am local time) and Pre-Qualifying session (2pm, both sessions 90 minutes long). Saturday sees the Qualifying and Pole Shootout sessions, and the second edition of the Laguna Seca Raceway California 8 Hours gets underway on Sunday morning at 9.15am.
