    Motul Sepang 12 Hours : Audi leading at halfway point

    The #15 Audi Sport Team Phoenix R8 of Robin Frijns, Christopher Haase and Intercontinental GT Challenge leader Laurens Vanthoor is leading the Motul Sepang 12 Hours at the halfway point. The car took the lead during a rain shower in the fifth hour of the race, when they were one of the first cars to shod rain tyres.

    Three hours into the Motul Sepang 12 Hours Porsche is occupying the first two positions, but the top-6 is only separated by half a minute. The main incident of the first quarter of the race were the lenghty repairs on the #9 K-PAX Racing McLaren, after it was hit by suspension damage. The car was 24 minutes in the box, and lost 13 laps.

    Laurens Vanthoor travelled to Sepang as leader in the Intercontinental GT Challenge driver standings. The Belgian took the win in last year’s Motul Sepang 12 Hours, and repeat of that performance would give him the Intercontinental GT Challenge driver title. But the Malaysian endurance race is special for another reason as well.

    Fred Makowiecki puts Porsche on pole for Motul Sepang 12 Hours

    A blistering lap by Fred Makowiecki in the top-15 shootout put the #912 Manthey Racing Porsche on pole for the 2017 Motul Sepang 12 Hours, final race of the Intercontinental GT Challenge. The shootout turned out to be a close-fought affair, with the top-3 cars separated by just two tenths of a second. Alvaro Parente managed to squeeze his #9 K-PAX McLaren in front of the second of the Manthey Racing Porsches, driven by Earl Bamber.

    The final free practice session for the Motul Sepang 12 Hours was largely incident-free and showed how close the top cars and drivers really are. After the last two hours of preparation, the fastest five cars were separated by just over two tenths of a second, with Alvaro Parente setting the fastest time in the #9 K-PAX Racing McLaren.

    McLaren quickest in the first two free practice sessions

    Alvaro Parente, who shares the #9 K-PAX Racing McLaren with Côme Ledogar and Shane Van Gisbergen, was quickest in the first two free practices for the 2016 Motul Sepang 12 Hours. The Portuguese driver set his laptime, a 2.03.468 for the 5,542 km long Malaysian track, in the first free practice session.
