James Calado puts #55 Kaspersky Motorsport Ferrari on pole

For the first time since the Total 24 Hours of Spa have been part of the Blancpain GT Series, a Ferrari will start from pole position. James Calado clocked a superb 2’17.390, the fastest-ever lap of a GT3 car on the Spa track, at the wheel of the #55 Kaspersky Motorsport Ferrari. Mirko Bortolotti (#63 Grasser Racing Team Lamborghini) will be next to him on the front row, with Belgian drivers Frédéric Vervisch (#2 Audi Sport Team WRT R8) and Laurens Vanthoor (#117 KÜS Team75 Bernhard Porsche) sharing the second row.

    After the hour long pre-qualifying session the timesheets were again topped by the #63 Grasser Racing Team Lamborghini of Mirko Bortolotti. This time the Italian preceded the #333 Rinaldi Racing Ferrari of Norbert Siedler, which was also the fastest of the Pro-Am cars.

    It is with great sadness that we have learned of the loss of Jean-François Chaumont. Jean-François was best known as the long-time promoter and organiser of the Spa 24 Hours. He started working for the Belgian endurance classic in 1978, and for three decades he headed the organisation committee.

    Mixed conditions during Free Practice, Lamborghini on top

    The free practice session for the 2017 Total 24 Hours of Spa started on a wet track, but with conditions improving during the second half of the 90-minute session, lap times were dropping rapidly. Eventually it was the #63 Grasser Racing Team Lamborghini, driven by Mirko Bortolotti, who set the fastest time in 2’20.406. Daniel Juncadella put the #88 Mercedes-AMG Team AKKA ASP car in second, a mere two tenths of behind the leading Lamborghini. Franck Perera completed the top-3, at the wheel of the #84 Mercedes-AMG Team HTP Motorsport machine.

    A huge number of enthusiastic fans attended the traditional Total 24 Hours of Spa Parade, lining both the public roads that link the circuit to Spa and the town centre itself. The drivers of the 63 cars participating in the highlight of the Blancpain GT Series and Intercontinental GT Challenge showed their gratitude by signing thousands of autographs in front of the Spa Casino.

    Wet Bronze Test first track action in busy Total 24 Hours of Spa week

    The three-hour Bronze Test for the 2017 Total 24 Hours of Spa gave the drivers plenty of opportunity to familiarise themselves with the iconic Belgian circuit, even though it was wet for most of the time. The Bronze Test was the first session of an action-packed week, which continues on Wednesday with the traditional and unique parade towards downtown Spa.
